Community Grants

Council supports the well-being and development of communities with community grants. In 2009, Council adopted the Community Grants Policy 2009.

Each year Council allocates money to each ward for community grants, as part of the Annual Plan. Grants are given using a contestable process, once or twice a year, depending on the ward.

Each ward has its own process for distributing community grants, using a contestable process. Turangi/Tongariro (TT) and Mangakino/Pouakani distribute grants directly. Council distributes grants for the district as a whole, through specialist agencies in each of three categories.

Council contracts community organisations in three categories (sports, social services, arts/cultural), to administer the contestable grants process. You can contact any of these organisations for information on when and how to apply for a grant.
