Council Owned Pensioner Housing

Application Criteria

• Be 60 years or over
• Be on a benefit 
• Have no more than, single $15,000, couples $20,000 in assets
  This excludes car, furniture and personal effects

• Single $79.70 Taupo, $85.50 Turangi, $55.00 Mangakino
• Double $104.50 Taupo, $120.00 Turangi, $84.00 Mangakino
• Payable by direct debit

Taupo

Taupo District Council administers 40 Pensioner Units, 29 in a complex on the corner of Rifle Range Road and Konini Street, opposite the Paetiki Shopping Centre, and 11 in Woodward Street, Nukuhau. Tenants each have their own small gardens at the back and front of the unit.

Units

Most units have single bedrooms but four have double bedrooms. Each unit has a separate kitchen, bathroom and lounge dining areas.

There is an active Neighbourhood Watch Group on site.

Turangi

Called the Turangi Retirement Complex, the Taupo District Council owns six pensioner units located in Tod Place, off Tamakui Grove. This complex is very close to the shopping centre.

There are four, one bedroom units and two, two bedroom units.

Mangakino

Taupo District Council operates 11 pensioner units in Karamu Street, Mangakino, close to the shopping centre.

Units

There are nine single units and two doubles.  Each unit has one bedroom, with separate kitchen and lounge dining area.
