Infringement Offences and Fees


If a dog owner fails to comply with Dog Control regulations they may be issued with an Infringement notice and fined.

Taupo District Council Policy

Infringement Notices will be issued under the following
circumstances:

Unregistered Dogs

Dog owners with unregistered dogs will be issued with an
Infringement Notice for $300.00. A covering letter will be sent
giving up to 14 days to pay the registration fee. If the
registration fee is paid during this period the Infringement Fee
may be cancelled.

Bylaws

A dog owner contravening a Taupo District Council Control of
Dogs Bylaw will receive one written or verbal warning. On
further offending, within a 12 month period, the owner may
receive a $300.00 Infringement Notice.

Leash Laws

If an owner fails to carry or use a leash as required, they will
receive one verbal or written warning. Further offences may
incur $100.00 Infringement Fine.

Other Offences

Infringement Notices may be issued on the first offence.

Explanations

All written explanations for Infringement Notices are to be
considered by at least two staff members. This may include
the Animal Management Supervisor or the Compliance
Supervisor or the Manager Building and Regulatory.
