DOG REGISTRATION
All dogs over the age of 3 months are required to be registered
Registration must be renewed each year on the 1st July. If you get a new dog please make sure the dog is registered and have this registration transferred into your name.
If the dog is not registered and it is past the due date you may be liable to penalty fees.
If you re-home a dog please ensure your local authority is advised of this change of ownership and also if you change your address you must advise the local authority of this change.
If your dog dies advise your local authority you may be be due a refund. For more information please refer to the notes on the back of the dog registration application by clicking HERE
Council staff are at present following up all unregistered dogs in our District with property checks. If a dog is unregistered the owner is liable to an Infringement fine of $300 and the dog may be seized and impounded.
If you have an unregistered dog and you are having difficulty in paying the fees due please contact Animal Management as soon as possible and discuss possible arrangements to assist you in making this payment.
MICRO CHIPPING
All dogs that are registered for the first time now unless they are working/ farm dogs are required to be micro chipped.
If you have your dog micro chipped by a veterinary surgeon or the SPCA please ensure you give your dogs microchip details to your Local Authority. You as the Owner are the one that must supply this information to your Council.
Council staff are available to microchip registered dogs at a cost of $15 per dog.
You may call at any Council office to pay the micro chipping fee. If you live in Turangi or Mangakino please make an appointment to have your dog micro chipped with the Animal Control officer at the time you make your payment.
In Taupo please call to the Taupo Dog Pound in Spa Rd between 12noon and 2.00pm Monday to Friday excluding Public holidays - bring your receipt to confirm the fee has been paid and the officer present will microchip your dog. We do not accept payments at the Pound.
