Animal Control
Stock in Urban Areas
Unless carefully controlled, the keeping of stock in the urban area can become a nuisance and be offensive to neighbours.
Special Requirements
Keeping pigs in the urban area is not permitted in the Taupo district and there are special requirements for keeping poultry in these areas. A permit is also required for anyone wanting to keep beehives in urban areas.
Wandering Stock
Stock can be dangerous if left to wander on roads.
The Taupo District Council will impound stock found on the road at any time of the day or night.
Who is Responsible
- Transit New Zealand is responsible for stock on state highways.
- Stock trespassing on private land may be impounded by the land owner and delivered to the pound - which is administered by council.
