The Council is responsible for ensuring that a health nuisance does not exist where hazardous substances are involved. This may include response to a spill, or maintaining information on contaminated properties.
Since 2004, Environment Risk Management Authority (ERMA) has been the governing body for hazardous substances but many other organisations administer the Hazardous Substances New Organisms Act 1996 (see below). To visit the ERMA website click HERE.

Disposal of Hazardous Substances
To dispose of any hazardous substance contact Taupo District Council. The Council is able to accept small household quantities. Commercial quantities of waste will need to be disposed outside the Taupo district, including the disposal of asbestos containing materials.
