Nukuhau Boat Ramp Area

The Nukuhau Boat Ramp Area is located opposite the Tongariro Domain, between the western bank of the Waikato River at the Taupo Boat Harbour and Rauhoto Street in Taupo. It is accessed from State Highway One at the Control Gates Bridge via Norman Smith Street, Noble Street and Rauhoto Street.

The area has been subject to redevelopment, currently providing temporary boat trailer parking and permanent storage for rigged yachts. Through 2007, improvements will include the establishment of a new boat maintenance building, new slipway, and landscaping of the reserve.

Redevelopment of Nukuhau Boat Ramp Area

Following the adoption of the Nukuhau Boat Ramp Area Reserve Management Plan in June 2005 which identified a need for addressing the boating and passive recreation needs of the area, significant redevelopment has taken place, and will continue throughout 2007.

The completion of Stage 1 of redevelopment has seen fourteen additional caged boat pens, and short term boat trailer and visitor parking installed in time for the 2006/07 summer. The area has now been sealed and additional lighting installed to improve security in and around the pens.

Through 2007 a new boat maintenance building will be established on the adjacent Council-owned Pier 87. This facility will be available for hire by owners wishing to undertake their own maintenance. The building will be serviced by a new slipway.

At the northern end of the reserve, the existing boat ramp will be extended and floating jetty installed. In the long term, landscaping of this area will be undertaken, with plantings and pedestrian access to Noble St established.
