Taupo District Council undertakes to provide a reliable and responsive interment service within the Taupo District. Lawn Cemeteries are provided at Rickit Street in Taupo, Aonini Road in Turangi, and Lake Road in Mangakino. These are all operated and maintained by Council.

Anyone wishing to plant a native tree in memory of a loved one may do so at the Memorial Walk, in Taupo, situated on the riverbank below the cemetery. This can be accompanied with a small plaque.
Other Cemeteries
Taupo has an historic cemetery and one Maori cemetery located on Lake Terrace. Another Maori cemetery, called Mangakino Urupa, is on Waipapa Road, Mangakino.
Records and Information
Interment records are kept at the Council offices in Taupo, Turangi, and Mangakino and are available during normal working hours. The information is available to families, relatives and friends and is also used for genealogical research.
Erecting a Headstone
For permission to erect a headstone you must fill out a Permit Form to Erect a Headstone and return it to your local Council office. The maximum dimensions for a headstone is 750 mm height x 450 mm depth x 1065 mm wide.
Hours of Operation
Council's cemeteries operate a six-day a week interment service, with a minimum of one days notice. This is in accordance with the Cemetery and Cremations Act 1964 and the District Cemetery Bylaws. A booking service can be obtained by calling your local Council office.
