Tongariro Domain

Tongariro Domain is Taupo's main park situated adjacent to the Central Business District. It is used every day by many different people and is central to many of the Taupo district's major recreation events such as the Ironman, Levene Half Marathon, and Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge. It also houses the Taupo Library, Great Lake Centre, Information Centre, Taupo Museum and the Super Loo. Other facilities include the Police Station and Courtroom, tennis courts, bowling greens, playgrounds, museum, Senior Citizens' Hall,  Rose Gardens, and the site for the South Domain Community Banner. The 100% Pure NZ Ora Garden of Wellbeing is to be located next to the museum.

Plans to develop the Domain, as outlined in the Tongariro Domain Management Plan, including the construction of an amphitheatre as part of the Riverside Park are underway.

Centennial Park

Centennial Park is a recreation reserve located on the north-eastern perimeter of Taupo in a predominantly rural area on the outskirts of Taupo.

Three local clubs, the Taupo Gliding Club, Taupo Motor Club and Taupo Car Club lease land from Council for their activities. For more background and history about Centennial Park click HERE ( 12 kb PDF ).

Reids Farm

Reids Farm Recreation Reserve is located off Huka Falls Road north of Taupo on the Waikato River. It is used for picknicking, and as a launch and retrieval for kayak groups. Free summer camping is permitted on the reserve from October 1 to April 31 and the maximum length of stay is 28 days. The reserve is closed to campers during winter from May 1 to September 30.

Other Conditions

  • Do not light open fires.
  • Do not damage trees and plants or disturb soil.
  • All vehicles must keep to formal roads and parking areas.
  • The rights of other reserve users must be respected.

 

Spa Thermal Park

A 41 hectare passive park, Spa Thermal Park is located off Spa Road and provides access to the Huka Falls Walking Track and Rotary Ride Bike Track. Spa Thermal Park is also a disignated dog exercise area and hosts the annual Day Night Thriller MTB event.
