Reserve Offences


The Reserves Act is administered by the Council's Reserves and Recreation.  The Reserves Act is aimed to protect special areas from any activity likely to damage or harm the environment.   If prosecuted, an offender could face a maximum fine of $500. 

It is an Offence to

  • Create temporary accommodation in public places such as reserves, public places, car parks or any property owned or administered by Taupo District Council. This includes tents, caravans and mobile homes, etc.
  • Light fires.
  • Plant trees, shrubs or plants.
  • Damage any structure.
  • Remove or damage plants, trees, bushes or anything else in the reserve.
  • Use the reserve for an exclusive private or business function.
  • Take, injure or destroy any animal or bird.
  • Erect a structure without consent.
  • Take a vehicle, boat or aircraft into an area of the reserve which is not a designated area.
  • Possess a firearm, weapon, trap, or net while in the reserve.
  • Alter, deface, or remove any boundary marker or sign.
