Te whare taonga o Taupo Nui A Tia

A vibrant museum including Maori treasures and a wide selection of exhibits related to fishing, the timber industry and the volcanic geology of the Lake Taupo region.
There is a large art gallery with changing exhibitions of contemporary New Zealand art (all for sale). A unique New Zealand garden capturing the essence of the central North Island called 'Ora - Garden of Wellbeing' is a fabulous addition to the museum.

Taupo Museum ‘celebrating art and history’

Friends of the Museum
A new era for the Lake Taupo Museum was marked on October 13, 2005 with the official winding up of the Museum Society and the launch of The Friends of The Museum. The move completes transitional arrangements for handing over management of the 30 year-old museum to Taupo District Council.
The Friends of the Museum will act as a key advocate group, take an active involvement in events like exhibition openings and may assist in fundraising for special projects. Current life members become Lifelong Friends with no additional charges. Current members automatically become Friends. The annual subscription fee remains unchanged.
Anyone wishing to join up as a Friend - please call at the museum and fill out a form at reception or phone 07 378 4167.
