Solid Waste Bylaw

The Solid Waste Bylaw is one of the tools Taupo District Council is using to achieve waste management goals for the Taupo District.

Objectives

The objectives of the Solid Waste Bylaw are to:

  • Promote the Council Waste Strategy and New Zealand Waste Strategy
  • Ensure efficient and effective waste management in accordance with legislative requirements
  • Impose performance standards for the benefit of the public
  • Monitor and regulate collectors and facility operators.

Overview of the Solid Waste Bylaw

  • The Solid Waste Bylaw requires events in public places to provide a waste management plan
  • The Solid Waste Bylaw requires multiunit developers to provide space for recycling as well as refuse handling
  • The Solid Waste Bylaw requires collectors of waste and waste facility operators to be licensed. Those license holders must report data to Taupo District Council to enable a greater understanding of the waste produced in the district.
  • The Solid Waste Bylaw provides minimum operating standards for collectors of waste and waste facility operators.
