2007 Election
Notice of Election, nomination of candidates, and closing date for nominations for the Taupo District Council 2007 Elections.
Under Section 52 of the Local Electoral Act 2001, I hereby give notice that on Saturday, the 13th day of October 2007, the following elections will be held under the First Past the Post electoral system by postal vote:
Election
- Election of Mayor
- Election of Members (Councillors) as follows:
Mangakino/Pouakani Ward: One (1) member
Taupo/Kaingaroa Ward: Seven (7) members
Turangi/Tongariro Ward: Two (2) members
- Election of Members (Community Board)
Turangi/Tongariro Community Board: Six (6) members

Nominations of candidates for all positions above open on Friday, 27 July 2007 and must be in my hands at 72 Lake Terrace, Taupo not later than 12 noon on Friday the 24th day of August 2007.
Each candidate must be nominated on the prescribed nomination paper obtainable from Taupo District Council offices located at 72 Lake Terrace, Taupo; Town Centre, Turangi; and Civic Centre, Mangakino, and each nomination must be accompanied by a deposit of $200 GST inclusive, which may be paid by cash, bank cheque or personal cheque (made out to the Taupo District Council) or EFTPOS.
A candidate may submit a candidate profile statement with their nomination paper for sending out with the voting documents to electors. An attachment to the nomination paper outlines the rules and procedures governing candidate profile statements. A Candidate Information Booklet will also be available with nomination forms.
Early Processing of Returned Voting Documents
The Taupo District Council has resolved pursuant to section 79 of the Local Electoral Act 2001 that the completed voting documents will be processed progressively on return, throughout the three week voting period.
Preliminary Electoral Rolls
Preliminary Residential and Ratepayer Electoral Rolls to be used for the election will be on display for public inspection from 8am, 27 July until 5pm, 24 August 2007 (both days inclusive) at the Council premises listed below during normal business hours:

The preliminary electoral roll closes on Friday, 24 August 2007 at 5.00pm.
Following closure of the roll, the Electoral Officer may, on application of any person who is or claims to be entitled to be enrolled, or any other person, or otherwise, make any necessary corrections to the names, addresses, occupations, abbreviations, or marks appearing in the electoral roll.
Application for enrolment or amended enrolment can be made at any time. Forms for enrolment on the ratepayer roll are only available from Council offices. All other enrolments can be made through NZ Post shops, the Council’s offices, by telephoning 0800 ENROL NOW (0800 36 76 56) or by visiting the Elections Website.
Listing of Candidates Names
Council has resolved that candidates’ names will be listed in pseudo-random order on the voting documents.
Pseudo-random order means an arrangement where the order of the names of candidates is determined randomly and all voting papers will use that order.
The order of the candidate’s names will be arranged at 3pm on Friday, 24 August 2007 in the Council Chamber, Lake Terrace, Taupo. Any person is entitled to attend the draw of candidate’s names.
Voting Period
The voting period will be from 21 September 2007 to 12 noon 13 October 2007.
