After pre-consultation with police, Council proposes that there be no changes made to the current liquor control bylaws. However, in accordance with Section 83 of the Act, Council hereby gives public notice of the review and is undertaking a special consultative process.
Summary of Information contained in the Statement of Proposal
Taupo District Council currently has in place three Liquor Bylaws:
1. The TDC Public Places [Taupo CBD] Liquor Control Bylaw 2006
2. The TDC Public Places [New Year] Liquor Control Bylaw 2006: Taupo & Turangi/Tongariro and
3. The TDC Public Places [Mangakino Town Centre] Liquor Control Bylaw 2003
To date, the current Liquor Control By-laws have enabled the police to better manage alcohol use and alcohol related issues in areas designated within the Liquor Control By-laws.
The TDC Public Places [Taupo CBD] Liquor Control Bylaw 2006
The CBD bylaws were made by Council inline with recommendations from the NZ Police. The police wished to have a permanent liquor ban in the recommended areas commencing 4pm on Thursday, including Friday, Saturday and Sunday and expiring at 7am Monday and all Public Holidays. The by-law was adopted in 2006.
The TDC Public Places [New Year] Liquor Control Bylaw 2006: Taupo & Turangi/Tongariro
The TDC Public Places [New Year] Liquor Control Bylaw 2006 [Turangi and Taupo] was adopted on the 17 November 2003 to achieve additional control of alcohol use over the New Year period in the designated areas of Taupo and Turangi/Tongariro and from time to time specified Public Places within the boundaries of the Taupo District.
The TDC Public Places [Mangakino Town Centre] Liquor Control Bylaw
In 2003 the Taupo/Kaingaroa-Mangakino Pouakani committee adopted the Liquor Control Bylaw for the Mangakino Town Centre as Council’s preferred option to reduce alcohol-related anti-social behaviour.
