Earthquake Prone Dangerous and Insanitary Building Policy
In line with requirements under the Building Act 2004 Council has developed a policy that sets out how it will deal in future with earthquake prone, dangerous and insanitary buildings around the district. The policy embodies both an active and passive approach that reflects Council’s determination to reduce earthquake risk over time but in a way that is acceptable in social and economic terms to its ratepayers.
Taupo District Council will both actively and passively review its building stock, based on priorities, to identify buildings that fall within the scope of potential earthquake-prone buildings under the Building Act 2004 and assess broadly the performance of those buildings in relation to the new building Standard, in particular, to the standard defined for earthquake-prone buildings.
