What Does Identification Of These Areas Mean To Affected Landowners?
The identification of important Landscape and Natural Areas will be used in the Taupo District Plan to manage development, use and subdivision in these areas. This means that certain activities that have the potential to adversely affect the values of Landscape and Natural Value areas may need to be regulated.
For instance, this may include provisions to manage activities such as extensive vegetation clearance, erection of over height or large structures, significant earthworks, and subdivision. It is not anticipated that the plan change will result in restrictions on grazing or general farming practices.
The specific detail on how development, use, and subdivision of these areas will be managed is yet to be determined, and this will be worked through further during consultation with those who have a ‘stake’ in these areas, including landowners, iwi, user groups, agencies, and interested individuals.
Part of this project also enables assisting landowners who wish to protect their areas. There are a number of funds, advice groups and statutory mechanisms to assist in the protection of these values on your land. We will update this page with this information in the future.
Next steps
All landowners with a natural value or landscape value area on their land should have been contacted through a letter. Council officers are working with landowners who have responded to these letters and are undertaking site visits and working to resolve specific queries. If you think you have one of these areas on your land and have not been contacted, please get in touch with Council.
Council will keep all landowners informed of the progress of this work and seek feedback when the next stage is reached. This web page will also be updated as the project progresses.
