Taupo and Lake Terrace Water Supply New Treatment Plant
A major upgrade is being carried out to the Taupo water supply treatment plant to meet new requirements for drinking water standards, including control of protozoa and toxic algal bloom and also to keep pace with the rapid growth in the Taupo township.
Council has allocated $2 million dollars in 2006, and $8 million dollars in 2007, $14m in 2008 and $1m in 2009 to upgrade the Taupo Water Treatment Plant. The project strategy study has shown that a single treatment plant inland from the lake is the best option to service the Taupo central, west, south, and Acacia Bay. The treatment plant may include new processes such as flocculation, filtration, clarification and UV disinfection. The water treatment plant is due for completion in 2010.

This model will also be used to site the proposed Brentwood reservoir and test pump station sites and supply zone boundaries.
