Taupo
In order to cope with a growing urban population and to get the best performance from its wastewater treatment systems, the council plans to upgrade Taupo township’s land-based sewage treatment system. The Council has allocated $5 million in the 2006, 2007 period to purchase 350 hectares of land for spray irrigation of wastewater.
A computer model is being prepared for the Taupo main trunk sewer that collects 85 percent of Taupo's gravity sewerage from Grace crescent to the PCP - beside the Waikato River. The first part of Taupo’s main sewage trunk pipe line will be upgraded to cope with the growth at a cost of $420,000 during the 2007, 2008 period.
A structure plan for Taupo’s wastewater treatment is being drawn up and alternative methods of treatment and disposal have to be investigated for the long term.
Acacia Bay

One hundred thousand dollars has been budgeted for the 2007, 2008 period for a second sludge holding tank. The existing sludge holding tank is almost at full capacity.
