Urban Growth in Taupo

Following on from a series of public open days during the consultation process for the draft Mapara Valley Structure Plan, Council has recognised that there is a need to provide more information on future urban growth within the Taupo District.  For more information click HERE. ( 1.43 MB PDF )

Although, the Mapara Valley has been identified as a future growth area through the strategy, there is still a significant amount of planning required before the area can be utilised for urban development.  Taupo District 2050 states that a structure plan and plan change will be required to provide this greater certainty.

Several private land owners in the Valley have indicated their aspirations for development of different parts of the Valley.  To enable the Taupo District Council to respond to all developers in an open and transparent manner, the Council must have a clear view on how it sees urbanisation taking place.

To crystallise this view the Council is proceeding with the development of a Council led structure plan and associated variation/plan change.  Watch this space for more information on this project and for details on when we will be asking for your input.

Timeframe:

  • March – September 2007:  development of the draft Structure Plan
  • September - October 2007:  public consultation
  • October – December 2007:  production of the final Structure Plan and Plan Change
  • 1 April 2008 - Notification for submissions
  • 30 May 2008 - Submissions close
