Background
In 1988 the Taupo County Council purchased a 1.6350 hectare block of land from the Roman Catholic Church for the development of housing for the elderly. A Council owned section and house at 8 Tamakui Grove was amalgamated into a 1.701 hectare block.
In 1989 the Taupo District Council proceeded with developing Stage One which included the road construction of Tod Place and the subidvision of four residential lots adjoining Poihaere Street.
In 1991 Stage Two involved the building and selling of two own-your-own units. A loan was raised to finance the original land purchase and it was identified that on-call medical care at the site may be needed.
In 1995 Taupo District Council reduced its outstanding loan by raising a loan and by using some of its reserve account. In 1999 Turangi Tongariro Community Board resolved to subdivide and asked TDC for a waver of the reserve contribution fees. An engineering plan and scheme plan was commissioned. In 2000 the board approved a revised development plan and sought resource consent which was approved by the Taupo District Council in 2001.
In 2002 The board approved of road modifications to proceed to allow the subdivision of two lots and relocation of the 11 kV power cable to allow better utilisation of the land.
