Council asks for feedback on new Water Bylaw
The water supply bylaw addresses the issues associated with the terms and conditions of supply of water and the protection of the water supply system for ratepayers and residents of the Taupo District.
Councillor Kathryn Uvhagen said, “Council is responsible for providing a reliable water supply service to protect public health. It is vital that we get direction from this community in terms of how we manage that supply. Your submissions and input will ensure that we develop a strong new bylaw that is consistent with national best practice.”
The new bylaw replaces the existing bylaw which has been in place since 1976. The main changes for the public to consider include how Council should protect the health of its water supply, how Council can guard against illegal connections to protect water supply and the ability for Council to apply penalties for excessive or wasteful water use.
To view the draft bylaw and to make a submission go to 'Have your Say' or phone Council on 07 376 0899. Submissions close at 5.00pm on Friday 29 May.
