Govt wants input on road safety strategy

MEDIA RELEASE

Government calls for input on road safety strategy

The government intends to release the new road safety strategy ‘Safer Journeys’ in December this year, and the public are encouraged to make submissions on its priorities.

The new strategy ‘Safer Journeys’ looks at the key road safety issues affecting New Zealand road users and how they can be addressed.  The Ministry of Transport is seeking public input on the priority of the issues.

Some of the safety issues of high concern are reducing alcohol/drug impaired driving, increasing the safety of young drivers, safer roads and roadsides, safer speeds, and increasing the safety of motorcyclists.

For a copy of the discussion document, to make a submission or take part in the online discussion about Safer Journeys go to www.saferjourneys.govt.nz or email saferjourneys@transport.govt.nz

Alternatively you can write to: Safer Journeys, Ministry of Transport, PO 3175, Wellington 6140.

Submissions close 2 October 2009.
