Kinloch lakefront reserve

MEDIA RELEASE

18 September 2009

Planned improvements for Kinloch lakefront reserve

Improvements to solve ongoing issues on the Kinloch lakefront reserve, particularly around traffic management, are being put to rate payers and residents in the area.

The Kinloch Recreation Reserves Management Plan, which was adopted in 2007, identified that there were improvements needed to the Kinloch Lakefront reserve in the vicinity of the Kinloch Esplanade and Keitha Place.  In addition to this, recent concern has been expressed about the degradation of the reserve caused by parked cars and boat trailers.  At peak times the reserves becomes like a carpark, leaving little room for safe and enjoyable recreational use.  Other issues related to vehicle use on the reserve include environmental damage to the reserve from vehicles, reduced amenity value of the reserve, and the nuisance effects of vehicles including dust, noise and inconsiderate behaviour of drivers.

Two concept plans have been drafted aimed at improving lakefront safety and appeal.  Taupo District Council plans to consult with the people of Kinloch over the proposed concept plans. The direction from residents and ratepayers on the options will determine which option is favoured, and whether changes to the Kinloch Recreation Reserves Management Plan will be required before the plans can be implemented.

Kinloch ratepayers will receive a letter in the mail outlining the proposed concepts and are asked to complete and return the enclosed feedback form.  An open morning will be held on 3 October at the Kinloch Community Hall to answer any queries, allow residents and other interested parties to view the plans, and provide feedback to Council staff.

Copies of the proposed concept plans and the feedback form are available here.
