Taupo kids diving into books
MEDIA RELEASE
22 February 2010
Taupo Public Library was pleased with the success of the ‘Dive into Books’ summer reading programme, with 76 of the 80 children successfully completing the free programme.
Children that took part in the programme had to visit the library at least four to five times to talk to staff about what they had been reading and perform activities.
“It was wonderful to see the programme once again inject an enthusiasm for literature into the community,” said Children’s Librarian Kevin Collins. “I think every child gave it their best and discovered a variety of literature.”
The Mobile Library was also used for ‘report-ins’ at several local parks.
Certificates, medals, free books and a BBQ were part of the finale celebration held at the AC Baths. Eddy the Taniwha made a guest appearance, and the lifeguards put on a superb demonstration.
The public library would like to thank Taupo Friends of the Library, Pak N Save, McDonalds family restaurant, Taupo Puzzle World and all the volunteers who gave their time and support.
