Best Wishes for 2013!

Thousands celebrate New Year's Eve with fireworks on the Taupo Lakefront!

Taupo celebrated New Year’s Eve as thousands of holiday-makers and locals from around the District enjoyed a sunny day in our popular holiday destination.

Daytime activities included the incredible Wet 'n Wild Waterslide located in the Taupo Amphitheatre and the thrills provided by Mahons Entertainment on the adjacent Tongariro Domain.

In the evening, there were two fireworks displays for the community to enjoy. The build up to the New Year began at 9.30pm with music.

At 10.00pm the Lakefront burst into sound and colour with the Twilight ‘Mini Bang’ provided by Council. The twilight show meant families with little ones could join in; it was a great way for kids to see the fireworks.

About 1,000 people gathered on the Lakefront for the ‘Big Bang’ fireworks display scheduled at midnight. Unfortunately, technical difficulties meant part of the display took place at around 12:05am with the main show around 12:20am. However, this was the more spectacular show and the fireworks were visible from many vantage points around Taupō.

Wishing everyone a peaceful and joyous 2013!

The New Year's event was provided to the community by Council. We acknowledge the Tūwharetoa Māori Trust Board for providing access to Taupō Moana to hold this event.
