Responsible Water Usage Required

Responsible water usage is required as the dry weather continues.

Households wishing to use sprinklers or irrigation systems can now:
  • only do so on alternative days between 6.00am-8.00am and 6.00pm-8.00pm
  • odd numbered houses may do this on odd calendar days and
  • even numbered houses may do this on even calendar days
The requirement for responsible water usage is in place until further notice. Click here for water saving tips.

With the hot, dry weather and high number of visitors, our water usage is quite high at the moment. Water reserves in Taupo Town are dangerously low after heavy winds and the influx of visitors to the area have combined to badly deplete the town’s water supply.
Please conserve water as Tamatea Reservoir is currently sitting well below capacity.

Council is advising all Taupo District residents and holiday-makers to be water conscious.

Council is asking everyone to refrain from unnecessarily using water and to use common sense. Simple things like turning sprinklers off and not watering lawns will help.

Council has put in place restrictions on water use until the levels are replenished. The current volume of water may not be sufficient to effectively cope with a fire, should firefighters need it.
