Calling all community and not for profit organisations and groups
We want to help you grow!
We understand and appreciate the importance of our community and not-for-profit groups and organisations within the Taupō district.
Te Pā Harakeke is a people-first approach to building a strong, resilient, and flourishing community for future generations.
You all play an important role in our lives – from connecting and encouraging new sporting, recreational and social opportunities, to providing platforms for all walks of life and lending a hand in times of need. The work that takes place is so valued and meaningful.
Learn new skills and build capability in your community or not-for-profit group or organisation with our series of free workshops.
The new Incorporated Societies Act 2022 brings changes affecting incorporated societies - including many clubs, residents' associations and community organisations.
The seminars will be facilitated by Community Waikato and have been designed to assist local volunteer clubs and societies to prepare for changes to the act.
All incorporated societies need to make changes to their constitutions and re-register under the 2022 Act before 5 April 2026.
The Act modernises the way societies are registered and regulated; with the major changes relating to:
- Membership: A new minimum number of members and rules about how someone becomes a member.
- Governance: Committee member duties are clarified and defined.
- Constitution: New requirements for a society’s Constitution (previously known as its rules).
- Dispute resolutions.
- Financial reports.
- Managing conflicts of interest and member information.
April isn’t far away – get some support now and get on top of the changes. You won’t regret you did!
About Te Pā Harakeke
The harakeke (flax) plant is often used as a metaphor for families and communities. Just as the harakeke bush relies on its different parts to thrive and grow, so do communities who rely on each member to support and sustain one another. Te Pā Harakeke is about developing interconnectedness and growth.
These workshops are coordinated by the Taupō District Council Community Engagement and Development team, and facilitated by our expert partners.
