Council warns of possible impersonators
15 January 2015
Know who you are dealing with. That is the message from Taupo District Council following reports of people impersonating council workers in neighbouring districts.
Last month there was a particularly concerning incident near Te Kuiti in which a man claiming to be an animal management officer allegedly shot and killed two dogs.
Consents and regulatory manager David Greaves said people should ask to see identification if they were unsure if they were dealing with bona fide council staff. Alternatively, residents could contact the council office to establish whether a staff member was who they claimed to be.
All of our staff out in the field carry identification at all times and drive marked Taupo District Council vehicles, he said. The bottom line is, if you are unsure, ask. Our staff will always be more than willing to show you proof of who they are.
