Fragile
Tammie Rose Riddle
31 January - 24 February 2015
Landscape painting and the art style of cubism are two things that do not normally go together in art, so the new exhibition at Taupo Museum is set to share fresh ideas.
The exhibition, Fragile, features the acrylic paintings of Manawatu artist Tammie Rose Riddle and opens next Saturday, January 31.
Riddle is a self-taught artist influenced by early modernist traditions of painting and cubist artists such as George Braque, Pablo Picasso and Jean Metzinger. Riddle said the use of cubism gave her artwork multiple view points and dimensions.
I have developed a style that uses cubism and realism together to create light and texture, she said.
Riddle has exhibited her work widely and has pieces in several public and private collections as well as having been successful in a number of New Zealand art awards.
I throw my whole soul into every piece that I create, Riddle said. The experience and story are the most important things that I want the viewer to feel when they see a piece of my work.
The exhibition is open until February 24 with most of the work for sale. Taupo Museum is open seven days from 10am to 4.30pm. Entry is free to children and Taupo District residents with proof of address.
