Input sought on water supply strategy and road encroachment policy
Taupō District Council is drafting its water supply strategy and road encroachment policy and is seeking community input on both documents.
Policy advisor Tanya Wood said that the draft water supply strategy provides an overview of council’s strategy for supplying drinking water over the next 30 years and has four main outcomes. “We want to ensure we use water responsibly, that we support the growth aspirations of our communities, and that our water supply is financially sustainable and of course safe,” she said.
The draft road encroachment policy outlines what is allowed on or under road reserves. “Things like stock underpasses, fences, retaining walls, or tables and chairs outside cafes or restaurants are all known as encroachments. We do not currently have a policy that provides direction on when these are appropriate, so we’d like to hear our community’s views on this.”
Submissions on the water supply strategy and road encroachment policy are now open.
