Permanent repair to Crown Road to be complete within week
The permanent repair to the surface of Crown Road, damaged due to subsidence in the early hours of last Friday morning, is expected to be completed within the next week.
The road was closed immediately following the 2am incident that left one house unhabitable, cut water and wastewater to several houses and caused damage to Invergarry Road. Water and wastewater was reinstated within 24 hours, and road and berm repairs to Invergarry Road were completed earlier this week. Crown Road has been closed between Invergarry Road and Ashwood Avenue since the incident.
Head of operations Kevin Strongman said contractors were working as fast as possible to complete the repair and they were confident it would be completed by the end of next week. “It is a big job as the contractors will need to dig up a 17 metre length of road to about one metre deep in some places,” he said.
A ground penetrating survey had been undertaken on Crown Park in an effort to detect any ground movement and had shown no major damage had occurred. The restoration of the turf in the vicinity of the crack is expected to start on Monday.
