The part of Lake Terrace closed following the major wastewater spill in July will reopen next Saturday, September 14.
Infrastructure manager Denis Lewis said while it had originally been planned to open the south bound lane before the north bound, making both lanes fully operational at the same time would mean less disruption for motorists.
“Opening both lanes on the same day will mean we won’t have to lay a temporary seal, as all the work will be completed. This has been a very long and challenging rebuild and it will be great to have things back up and running,” he said.
Mr Lewis said compacted pumice would be used to form the base of the north bound lane next week, and the Downstream Defender, which will improve water quality of stormwater entering lake, was being commissioned.
Lake Terrace to Roberts Street will open on Monday, and one lane of Ferry Road will reopen with a left turn only onto Tongariro Street on Tuesday.
The southern end of Ferry Road will be fully opened about Wednesday, September 18, allowing access to the carparks at that end of the road.
