Lake Terrace re-opening to be in stages
While the plan was to fully re-open the road this weekend, recent testing of the water main has been unsuccessful. Testing involves filling the line with water and pressurising to ensure the new infrastructure will operate correctly.
“With the length of the water main, it will take an extra few days to complete the new test and ensure the water main is ready to be connected to the main system,” said Infrastructure Manager Denis Lewis.
“This means we will be slightly delayed in completing the pavement repairs and fully re-opening the road,” he said.
“However, the intention is to open both lanes of Lake Terrace from Ruapehu to Roberts Street this Friday. Following this, we will look to progressively open the north and south bound lanes from Lake Terrace to Tongariro St as well as Ferry Road in the coming week and a half, as we work our way through completing repairs to the pavement and road - weather and testing dependent.
“We will continue to update the community as we progress and would like to thank everyone for their patience as we ensure this infrastructure is correctly installed.”
