Extra signage for Kiddle Drive/Arrowsmith Avenue intersection
Extra stop signs and road markings are now being installed at the Kiddle Drive/Arrowsmith Avenue intersection.
Council’s traffic management team and New Zealand Police have reviewed the intersection and opted to install a new traffic island on Napier Road into Arrowsmith with a 900mm stop sign, a further stop sign on the left hand side of Napier Road (uphill approach), and larger road marking lines on both Napier Road approaches. The left turn into Arrowsmith Avenue will also be changed to a stop sign.
Head of operations Kevin Strongman said the recent changes to the intersection were completed to reduce the high crash rate there over the past two decades.
“Police have been monitoring the changes to the intersection and they have told us that drivers are adapting to the new road priorities but some drivers were still not stopping where required.
“The current signage and road markings are in accordance with New Zealand Transport Authority guidelines but the community has requested extra signage at this intersection and we understand the concerns so will have our contractors make this a priority.
“We will also be undertaking a further audit to ensure we are doing everything we can to make safety the number one priority,” he said.
