Water restrictions for residents north of the river
Residents north of the Waikato River including Nukuhau, Brentwood, Rangatira Park and Wairakei are being asked to restrict all non-essential outdoor water usage over the next week.
A temporary water system has been in place since the Lake Terrace event in July where both water and wastewater pipes were damaged.
Council contractors have so far replaced approximately 1km of water main from Ruapehu Street to the end of Ferry Rd at the Taupō Marina with the final system expected to be in place in the next week.
Head of operations Kevin Strongman said council is asking residents to restrict all non-essential outdoor water use in these areas until the final repair is in place.
“With the warmer weather, we are seeing increased water use, particularly outdoors, which is causing low pressure issues.
“If we can all do our part until the permanent system is in place that would be much appreciated,” he said.
The new system is expected to be connected on Tuesday, November 12.
The water restrictions do not affect Acacia Bay or Mapara.
