Residents on the north side of the river, including Nukuhau, Brentwood, Rangatira Park and Wairakei are being asked to reduce water use from 9am to 5pm on Tuesday, 12 November as a new water main is connected.
The new main is the final connection to be made following the washout that occurred on Lake Terrace in July and infrastructure manager Denis Lewis says that council contractors have now replaced approximately 1km of water main from Ruapehu Street to the end of Ferry Road.
“We’re really happy to be getting this final main connected and restoring full supply to residents north of the river.
“We will have a water tanker on hand in case water pressure gets too low. Some residents may experience air bubbles in their water which will give it a milky appearance after the connection has been completed. We’ll have a team out flushing the system to reduce this as much as possible however,” he said.
Residents can reduce their water use during this time by refraining from flushing the toilet, using the shower / bath, dishwasher or washing machine and turning off any outdoor hosing or sprinkler systems.
The water restrictions do not affect Acacia Bay or Mapara.
