Located within the South Tongariro Domain, the Joan Williamson Rose Garden is celebrating 40-years since opening in 1979.
A popular spot for visitors and celebrating weddings, the garden is known for its beautiful antique annual and perennial roses.
It is named after Mrs Williamson, a former mayor of Taupō who was instrumental in their development. She served as Mayor of the Taupō Borough Council from 1986 – 1988 and of the Taupō District Council from 1988 – 2001.
