Something for all cyclists at Lake Taupō Cycle Challenge
We’re delighted to welcome cyclists from all over the country to New Zealand’s largest cycling event, the BDO Lake Taupō Cycle Challenge.
This year is the 43rd instalment of the event, with around 6000 riders expected to take part over the weekend. It's not just about endurance either, as Friday night will see the quicker riders take part in the criterium event, which pits riders against each other in handlebar to handlebar action – a spectacle not to be missed!
The pint-sized pedallers among us can also get into the action, with a children’s challenge at the Northern Domain on Friday from 3pm to 5.30pm and a repeat is scheduled for Saturday between 12pm and 5pm. Cycle instructors will assist with this event on both days.
Council events manager Steve Giles said hosting this event in Taupō makes for a great weekend for both locals and visitors.
“It’s great for our district to see events like this coming to town. Of course, it’s also important to mention and say thank you to all the volunteers who make this event possible, please give them a high-five or thank them yourself if you see them,” he said.
Please remember next year’s event is scheduled for the earlier date of Saturday November 14.
LAKE TAUPŌ CYCLE CHALLENGE ROAD CLOSURES
