Taupō District crowned best in the world by IRONMAN athletes
Taupō District has today been announced as the best stop on the IRONMAN event calendar, as voted by athletes worldwide.
IRONMAN made the announcement as part of the annual Athlete Choice Awards, with the Taupō District’s Nutri-Grain IRONMAN New Zealand coming out on top, out of 40 events run across the globe.
Mayor David Trewavas said he was excited to hear the district had been recognised as one of the best.
“We love showcasing our district to the world - this event is one of our highlights every year so it’s great to hear that it’s also a highlight of those visiting,” he said
Along with taking the coveted ‘best event’ title, Nutri-Grain IRONMAN New Zealand also topped the rankings in the Overall Venue Experience and Overall Host City Experience categories, showcasing what athletes can expect not only this weekend, but also in November when our district hosts this year’s IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship.
Taupō District events manager Steve Giles said it was a fantastic lead up to this weekend.
“What a great way to start the build-up for this weekend’s IRONMAN 2020 events. Each year, we strive to ensure we create a great experience for all the athletes and supporters so it really is fantastic to hear that they’re enjoying being here as much as we love hosting them,” he said.
