Chairperson elected to Turangi Tongariro Community Board
Community board member and former teacher Clint Green has been elected as the new chairperson to the board – and he is delighted to lead the team!
The position was vacated by outgoing chair Amanda Maclaren, who resigned last month. Mr Green was elected at the March board meeting. He said he was keen to use his time and energy to lead a group he believed was important for Turangi and its future.
“I love this town, so it’s a chance to provide leadership for the things I believe in,” he said.
“It’s time to pay back for all the time I’ve had living here, it’s been a great place for me and it’s time to put back into the community.”
He said he had chaired several groups over the years and had the skillset to match the position. It was a step up from being a board member for him because it meant a further reach within the community. He said he loved people and pulling together the diverse nature of the community.
“I’m passionate about sense of place – having a place people feel connected to, that they belong to, and that they have a future in – that’s important to me.”
Mr Green also filled the vacancy as a representative on the Creative Taupō group, and said it was a good fit as he had a background working in the creative arts through his teaching.
One vacant seat remained on the Turangi Tongariro Community Board for the Tongariro ward for which nominations close this Thursday, March 11 at noon. Mr Green was keen to see members of the ward put their hands up to represent their community.
“I’d encourage anybody who has the slightest inkling to represent the Tongariro ward to put their hand up. If they or someone close to them is keen – then go for it.”
