Mangakino customer service centre and library temporarily closed

UPDATE: 5pm Thursday 18 June.

Air testing results have come back clear and the Mangakino customer service centre and library will reopen as normal tomorrow, Friday 19 June.

The Mangakino customer service and visitor information centre and library is closed today and tomorrow, Thursday 18 and Friday 19 June, for asbestos testing.

This is just a precaution, as most buildings of the same era as the customer centre contain asbestos, which was a common building material right up until the 2000s. Being in a building where asbestos is present doesn’t mean you have been exposed to it. It is only a risk to health if it is disturbed and fibres are released into the air.

While we wait for more information, our main priority is the safety of the public and our staff so the centre and library will remain closed until the test results arrive, hopefully by the end of this week.

Please be reassured that the areas where asbestos has been observed are not in the reception area or library that are used by the public.

Once the results are back and showing the building as safe to use, we will reopen it as soon as possible and update the community.
