Good progress on Roberts/Tīitīraupenga intersection

Work is progressing well on safety improvements being made to the Roberts St/Tītīraupenga St intersection.

So far, kerbs and footpaths have been changed for better sight lines. A raised pedestrian crossing has been installed together with two of the five planned pedestrian refuges. Lighting upgrades have also been finished, and parking angles have been changed so that drivers no longer back out directly into traffic.

The final steps of the project are installing the remaining pedestrian refuge islands, landscaping, line marking, and signage. Completion is on track for mid-July.

The project is being carried out to address road safety concerns raised by nearby residents and businesses. The new pedestrian refuges will allow people to safely cross Tītīraupenga St in two stages and the revised intersection also improves visibility for drivers, particularly turning traffic. The raised crossing across Roberts St from Briscoes to Fox & Hounds also reinforces the 30km/h speed limit on Roberts St and in the town centre.
