Work on improving the Napier-Kiddle-Arrowsmith intersection got underway in November 2021, with the existing intersection being replaced with a new roundabout constructed by contractor Fulton Hogan.
Funding of $994,500, 51 per cent of the project total, has been secured from Waka Kotahi, with the remaining $955,500 coming from Council. Design work on the roundabout has been completed by local civil engineers.
While there will be some road closures and detours in place at times during the project, the team will be working as quickly as possible to minimise inconvenience.

2 March: Kiddle/Arrowsmith roundabout project nears completion
Our new roundabout at the Kiddle Drive/Arrowsmith Avenue intersection is up and running and it looks great, but thanks to COVID we are experiencing some issues with finishing off the footpaths around it.
The supply of concrete has been disrupted and several of the team working on the site are having to isolate, but we're working closely with our contractor to get this sorted and get our roundabout done and dusted as soon as possible.
Thanks for your patience and please continue to drive with caution around this site as the team will be back on the job in the very near future!
27 January: Full steam ahead on Kiddle/Arrowsmith roundabout
Things have been going great on the new Kiddle Drive/Arrowsmith Avenue roundabout, with all of the drainage work complete and the roundabout really starting to take shape. While there are still a few weeks of work to go before the project is complete, our contractors will be temporarily opening the intersection from 28 January to 7 February, so there will be no need to follow the detour during this time. The team will still be onsite working however, so please drive carefully if you’re passing through this area.
We’ll have to do one more short road closure from 8 – 13 February to finish off the pavement and concrete works, and then the project should be complete by mid-February. Thanks to the community for your patience!
3 January 2022: Temporary closure of intersection
The Kiddle Drive/Arrowsmith Avenue intersection will be closed for three weeks from Monday 10 January as the final phase of the construction of the new roundabout gets underway. Detours will be in place and drivers are asked to follow the guidance of the traffic management team at all times so that this stage of the install can be carried out safely.
Our team will be working as quickly as possible on this project and we’re keen to get the new roundabout up and running as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

“This will be a sizeable piece of work and we have a project plan that will keep disruption to a minimum, but also ensure the work progresses as quickly as possible,” he said.
