Intersection upgrades in Taupo CBD
7 November 2018
The opening of the new intersection of Ruapehu Street and Paora Hapi Street was celebrated last Friday, alongside the team at Streetwise and contractors Higgins.
Landscape architect Fraser Scott was pleased with the outcome of the upgrade, which is in line with other areas of the CBD which have already had this type of work completed. "It really helps to continue the story of how much we love this place."
We've had some really positive feedback from business owners and residents" he says. "This intersection now has improved vision for both drivers and pedestrians, it's now a safer environment and that's always a better outcome for all.
The additional seating and pedestrian friendly spaces help create a more liveable environment." Taupō District Mayor David Trewavas was on hand for the formal part of the morning with a ribbon-cutting ceremony taking place to officially conclude the festivities.
The Ruapehu and Paora Hapi streets intersection was the fifth major CBD intersection to be upgraded in recent years, all featuring lower, less intrusive planted areas and a modern timber, stone and concrete design.
