Development Contributions

Development contributions are fees charged for developments, to pay for the extra community and network infrastructure required as a result.

New houses, subdivisions, and commercial developments pay a contribution to enable us to provide the necessary services related to the growth demand including public infrastructure and network infrastructure such as the three waters, transport, and reserves.

Our Development Contributions Policy was first adopted in 2004. The Development Contributions Policy 2018 has been adopted and includes the following changes from the policy adopted in 2015:

  • Changing funding of reserves from district-wide to catchment based (Taupō and Kinloch only)
  • The definitions of ‘growth’ and ‘reserve land’ have been clarified
  • Clarifying when reserves development contributions apply for infill development and;
  • The introduction of water contributions in Kuratau, Omori, and Pukawa.
