Recycling update for Alert Level 1
All rubbish and recycling services are back to normal under Alert Level 1.
Help us look after the place we love by recycling!
We actively support reducing the amount of rubbish that is sent to landfill by providing a kerbside recycling collection in urban areas that takes place on the same day of the week as your rubbish collection. In addition, we provide recycling facilities at our landfill and transfer stations around the Taupo District.

Changes to plastic recycling from October 1, 2018
Unfortunately, most of the plastics that we collect for recycling were processed in China, and as China is no longer accepting plastic waste, our contractor will therefore not be collecting category 3-7 plastics from October 1 2018.
Only categories 1-2 can be put in your recycling bin for collection from October 1 2018. Categories 3-7 go into your rubbish bags.
You can check the category of household plastics by looking at the recycling mark usually located on the bottom of the item.
This is an issue faced by all councils nationally, but it is also an opportunity following on from successful initiatives such as Plastic Free July, to continue to reduce our purchasing of plastic and take on other sustainable options.
