New Appointments for Tūrangi Co-Governance Committee

Kua ara a Puanga i te pae, he tohu mō te mātahi o te tau. Ka tangi te ngākau ki te hunga kua riro ki tua o te ārai, ā, ka ara anō te wairua, te manako, te oranga mō te tau hou e tū mai nei.
Puanga rises on the breath of dawn, heralding the Māori new year. As we mourn those who have journeyed beyond, we welcome the rising tide of spirit, hope, and renewal for the days to come.

Ngāti Tūrangitukua and Taupō District Council proudly welcome the appointment of Bernice Te Ahuru and newly appointed Pou Matua, Te Wharau Walker Junior, to the Tūrangi Co-Governance Committee. Their appointment signals a renewed commitment to the shared vision of partnership and progress for the Tūrangi community. The Committee also acknowledged the contributions of outgoing members Christian (Waka) Asher and Te Takinga New, whose leadership helped lay the groundwork for this new phase of collaboration.

Taupō District Mayor David Trewavas welcomed the new members, saying, “This is an exciting time for Tūrangi, we look forward to the next chapter, guided by the aspirations of our community and the strength of this renewed committee.”

Incoming Co-Chair Te Wharau Walker Junior reflected on the journey ahead, "I am looking forward to bringing a fresh rangatahi perspective to the table and excited to be working alongside Council partners to collaborate on projects that best meet the needs of our hāpori (community).

The Tūrangi Co-Governance Committee remains focused on delivering shared priorities through initiatives such as the Tūrangi Spatial Plan, Reserves Management Plan, and a range of whānau-led projects that reflect the values, identity, and aspirations of the Tūrangi community.
