Bulk water filling stations

Taupō District Council has seven dedicated bulk water filling stations across the district.

Approved permit holders can use these tanker filling stations to access bulk water supplies for an emergency, dust suppression, cleaning, irrigation and other wellbeing purposes.

Apply for a permit

A permit is required to draw water from our dedicated bulk water filling stations. To apply, complete our permit application form and email to Council at info@taupo.govt.nz for approval.

Permit holders

If your application is successful, you will be given a permit, usage guidelines and a swipe key for a set period of time to access the filling stations. Only one permit/swipe key will be issued per user/vehicle. Permits are typically renewed on an annual basis, but may be granted for a shorter timeframe or one-off access, on request.

The stations are fully automated to ensure the safety of our water supply, and accurate billing of your water use.

Note there may be times when, due to demand or an emergency, access to the bulk water filling stations may be restricted or unavailable. While we try to alert permit holders if this happens, we reserve the right to do this without notice.

A fixed fee applies for new and replacement permits
Volumetric charges apply for all water taken from our bulk filling stations.

Any unlawful usage or other water extraction from bulk water filling stations is prohibited, and penalties will be applied to anyone undertaking unauthorised filling. With the exception of Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ) and council, taking water from fire hydrants is prohibited.
