Partners and agencies
The Water Services Authority – Taumata Arowai is the water services regulator for New Zealand.
With a focus on protecting public health, they work with, regulate, and influence the water services sector to help improve outcomes for the health of the water, people and environment.
The Water Services Authority – Taumata Arowai:
- regulate drinking water suppliers so that they meet the requirements and standards for delivering safe drinking water.
- play a role supporting improvements in the environmental performance of wastewater and stormwater networks.
Waikato Regional Council is responsible for sustainable environmental management, allocation, and quality of freshwater and coastal resources.
We work with Waikato Regional Council primarily through joint management of the Lake Taupō catchment, focusing on water quality protection, erosion control, and land-use regulation.
Downer is the largest provider of outsourced water services in Australia and New Zealand.
Downer has been a long-term partner of Taupo District Council delivering our three waters maintenance contract. They employ a local team dedicated to keeping water services running reliably across the Taupo District.
Maritime services for Lake Taupō are provided by the Department of Internal Affairs, through the Lake Taupō Harbourmaster.
The harbourmaster manages Lake Taupō berth applications, ramp permits and mooring fees. A key role of the harbourmaster is to support and promote the safe use of Lake Taupō by boaties (including kayakers and other vessels) with responsibility for:
- carrying out regular patrols
- maintaining navigation aids and markers such as buoys, beacons and lights, around the lake
- maintaining safe boating signage at local boat ramps
