District Plan review and changes
In some way or another the District Plan effects every person in our district, whether it be what you can build on your property or how our town centre looks and feels. To ensure the District Plan is effective for the current day and the things our community want to do, we are reviewing parts of the plan that have the most issues - and we'll look to resolve these through a series of plan changes.
- Plan Changes 38-43: all plan changes are now operative, with provisions loaded into the District Plan
- Plan Changes 44-49: two proposed plan changes are now open for feedback, with submissions closing 4.30pm Tuesday 2 June.

About the District Plan
The District Plan sets out the policies and rules council uses to manage the use of land in the district.
The District Plan is available as an electronic map-based, searchable tool, combining a traditional plan document with mapping capabilities and user-friendly features.

In 2020 the Government introduced the National Planning Standards (the Standards). The Standards are a series of templates which place mandatory requirements for how district and regional plans are set up and formatted.
The purpose of the Standards is to make council plans and policy statements easier to prepare, understand and comply with. They aim to do this by improving the consistency of the format and content.
